The climate crisis and its economic and social consequences are currently being assessed and discussed in different ways. In her lecture “Narratives of the socio-ecological crisis and Dilemmas of the Energy Transition – A critical view from the Global South”, sociologist and writer Maristella Svampa (Universidad Nacional de San Martín, Buenos Aires) will present various narratives about the socio-ecological crisis. She will focus in particular on concepts from Latin America and the link between the socio-ecological crisis there and eco-territorial struggles and political ecology. In addition, she will address some of the points of discussion on the energy transition, such as decarbonization and its geopolitical impact on the Global South.
The public lecture will take place on May 29, 2024 at 6 pm c.t. in room 1.G168 in the PEG building on the Westend campus of Goethe University. It is organized by the Chair of Political Science with a focus on transformation research, focus on Latin America in cooperation with the Research Network Latin America / Abya Yala of Goethe University, the Institute for Social Research (IfS) and the research initiative “ConTrust” at the Research Center “Normative Orders”.
