About the book
This volume focuses on the investigation of attributions of deficits to rulers in the early modern period. This allows conclusions to be drawn about contemporary conceptions and justifications of sovereignty, its assertion and enforcement, continuity and change. How were deficits in sovereignty communicated and overcome at various levels? And what consequences did this have for the political order?
