Border and democracy
About the book
How can the normative relationship between borders and democracy be described? On the one hand, democracies are dependent on drawing boundaries and refer to a sovereign “people” that can only be defined through demarcations. On the other hand, democratic norms such as freedom and equality imply a universalism that rejects any demarcation. This volume explores this ambivalence. It not only contributes to current debates on democracy within and beyond the state, but also touches on current issues of migration and refugee policy.
