As part of the Frankfurt Citizens’ University, the Normative Orders Research Centre and the ConTrust cluster initiative are organizing a panel discussion on the topic of resistance and protest. In addition, dialog walks will take place in the city to explore questions of resistance and democracy.
While publicly articulated protest in its well-founded criticism is important for a democratic system, protest can also be destructive and call the rule of law into question and put it to the test. Protest can indicate a lack of trust in political institutions, but can also in itself diminish trust in them if, for example, it is violently suppressed. In the panel discussion “Invisible Resistance – Trust and Protest in Democracy” on February 2, 2023, the relationship between protest, democracy and trust will be explored in more detail.
Dominik Herold (Mehr als wählen e. V. and Netzwerk Paulskirche), Dr. Daniel Mullis (Leibniz Institute Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research), Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Sutterlüty and Prof. Dr. Lisbeth Zimmermann (both Goethe University) will sit on the panel. The discussion is being organized by the Frankfurt Citizens’ University together with the Research Center Normative Orders and the ConTrust cluster initiative.
As part of the Frankfurt Citizens’ University, two dialog walks will also take place in cooperation with Normative Orders and ConTrust. These are dedicated to protest and resistance in the context and image of the city of Frankfurt.
