Prof. Dr. Sofie Møller awarded the Leo Spitzer Prize for Young Scientists 2025

For the year 2025, the Leo Spitzer Prize for young female researchers goes to Prof. Dr. Sofie Møller. Since 2013, the University of Cologne has awarded the prize to outstanding young researchers from the humanities and human sciences as part of its “Future Prizes” funding concept. The prize commemorates the renowned Austrian-Jewish Romance philologist and literary theorist Leo Spitzer, who held a professorship for Romance linguistics at the University of Cologne until his dismissal in 1933 and was instrumental in founding the Portuguese-Brazilian Institute.
Prof. Dr. Sofie Møller’s research focuses on 18th and 19th century philosophy, in particular Immanuel Kant, German Idealism, ethics and the philosophy of law. Before receiving a junior professorship in philosophy with a focus on Kant and German Idealism at the University of Cologne in 2023, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Centre Normative Orders. With this award, the University is recognizing Møller’s outstanding academic work and her commitment to promoting young talent – a further step towards strengthening cutting-edge research in the humanities and human sciences.
