Sanctions in the areas of finance, transport, trade and energy were among the European Union’s first reactions to the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022. The EU has also adopted a large number of restrictive measures against China, Iran and Belarus in the recent past. But how successful is this sanctions policy and how can the enforcement of sanctions by the member states be improved? And how can the associated suffering for civilian populations be kept to a minimum at the same time?
The next event in the “Crisis Talks” series entitled “Between diplomacy and war: How successful are European sanctions?” on July 6, 2023 will address these questions with experts from academia and practice. The Crisis Talks series is organized by the Leibniz Research Network “Environmental Crises – Crisis Environments” and the Research Center “Normative Orders” at Goethe University. The event takes place both analog and digitally.
