Under the title “Hate Crime and Free Internet Speech – Trust in Conflict through Criminal Law?”, a public panel discussion will take place as part of the 39th conference of German-speaking teachers of criminal law and presented by the research initiative “ConTrust. Trust in Conflict”, a public panel discussion will take place on Wednesday, May 17, at 7 pm in Lecture Hall 1 in the Lecture Hall Center on Campus Westend.
The panel will discuss whether and to what extent free speech on the internet should be restricted by legal measures and what role criminal law and criminal law science currently play and should play in the future. After the welcoming address by the University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff, Dr. Angelika Schlunck, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Justice, will give a keynote speech. Also on the podium: former Federal Constitutional Court judge Prof. Dieter Grimm, senior public prosecutor Dr. Benjamin Krause from the Hessian Central Office for Combating Cybercrime, member of the Bundestag Renate Künast, who successfully defended herself against defamation on Facebook, and legal scholar Prof. Frauke Rostalski. The panel will be moderated by FAZ editor Marlene Grunert.
