Wer hat angefangen? Sinn und Unsinn historischer Schuldzuschreibungen
Frankfurter Stadtgespräch XV. Prof. Dr. Christopher Clark (Cambridge) im Gespräch mit Prof. Dr. Christoph Cornelißen (Exzellenzcluster „Die Herausbildung normativer Ordnungen“)
Die Frage nach der Schuld stellt sich nicht nur im Strafrecht, sie gehört auch zu den großen Themen der Geschichte. Fast könnte man meinen, dass unsere Bewertung historischer Ereignisse, besonders kriegerischer Auseinandersetzungen, nicht ohne die Antwort darauf auskommt, wer im Unrecht war und zu Verantwortung gezogen werden muss. Beim aktuellen Stadtgespräch soll es grundsätzlich und epochenübergreifend um die Bedeutung, die Funktion und die Folgen von Schuldzuschreibungen in der Geschichte gehen. Exemplarisch und aus aktuellem Anlass rückt dabei der Erste Weltkrieg in den Fokus, für dessen Ausbruch viele Historiker lange Zeit vor allem Deutschland verantwortlich machten. Zu Gast beim XV. Frankfurter Stadtgespräch ist der Historiker Christopher Clark, der in seinem Buch „Die Schlafwandler – Wie Europa in den Ersten Weltkrieg zog“ einen differenzierten Ansatz verfolgt. Sein Diskussionspartner ist Christoph Cornelißen, Professor für Neueste Geschichte an der Goethe-Universität.
