Lichter Rahmenprogramm Auftaktgespräch: Europa: Außen.Grenzen.Innen.
Auftaktgespräch mit Ralph Bollmann (Historiker und Redakteur der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung), Prof. Dr. Nicole Deitelhoff (Professorin für Internationale Beziehungen und Theorien globaler Ordnungen, Exzellenzcluster Normative Orders an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main), Karl Kopp (Europareferent Pro Asyl), Dr. Mark Terkessidis (Migrationsforscher, Journalist, Publizist u.a. Interkultur (2010) und zuletzt Kollaboration (2015)).
Für die meisten Europäer gehörten Grenzen bis vor Kurzem der Vergangenheit an. Schlagbäume auf der Urlaubsreise nach Frankreich oder Italien waren Erfahrungen aus einem anderen Jahrtausend. Globales Wirtschaften, Erasmus-Stipendien, Billigflieger und Währungsunion hatten die Erinnerung an Blockbildung, Eisernen Vorhang und Kalten Krieg längst verdrängt.
Seit jedoch immer mehr Menschen vor Krieg und Elend nach Europa fliehen, hat sich das Bild gewandelt. Vielen Europäern wird erstmals wieder bewusst, dass Frieden, Wohlstand und Reisefreiheit keine Selbstverständlichkeiten sind. Die Geflüchteten geben den Dramen in den Herkunftsländern, an Europas Außen- und mittlerweile auch an Europas Binnengrenzen ein Gesicht inmitten der europäischen Gesellschaften. Ihre Anwesenheit konfrontiert die Europäer mit Fragen:
Wie ist es um die viel beschworenen europäischen Werte bestellt? Muss Europa seinen Wohlstand stärker teilen oder kann es weiter auf Abschottung setzen? Welche Verantwortung trägt Europa für die Konflikte in der arabischen Welt und andernorts? Wie können die Europäer gemeinsam zu friedlichen Lösungen beitragen und die Chancen pluralistischer Gesellschaften wahrnehmen lernen?
