The divide between winners and losers within societies has become increasingly acute and has divided the community and the political sphere, according to Michael J. Sandel. According to him, the polarization that politics is suffering from today has been developing for decades and is the result of a neoliberal globalization project that has been driven by centre-left and centre-right parties alike.
In the lecture by the US-American philosopher on 6 June at 7 pm in the Linguistics and Cultural Studies building (room SKW B) on the Westend campus, the question of how to deal with such a development at a time when democracy is in danger and how, in particular, performance-oriented ideas of success should be reconsidered in favour of a “political economy of citizenship” and a renewal of the recognition of work will be explored.
