“StreitFilme – The Frankfurt Film Festival on Democracy, Conflict and Dispute” from September 1, 2023
From September 1, 2023, the film series “StreitFilme – Die Frankfurter Filmtage zu Demokratie, Konflikt und Streit” will present selected feature films from European and US cinema and their perspectives on dispute and (democratic) decision-making on seven dates, each starting at 8 pm, in the cinema of the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum. The film series focuses on the negotiation of various social issues of dispute and conflict, but also on the nature and structures of disputes between rhetorical artistry and escalating violence, which will be examined from various academic disciplines. The films will each be accompanied by an introductory lecture by academics from the research initiative “ConTrust – Trust in Conflict” and the Research Institute for Social Cohesion, with the opening lecture on September 1 being held by legal scholar Prof. Dr. Klaus Günther (ConTrust, FGZ) as an introduction to the screening of the film Twelve Angry Men/Die zwölf Geschworenen from 1957 by Sidney Lumet.
Other speakers include the political philosopher and co-spokesperson of the “ConTrust” research initiative Prof. Dr. Rainer Forst, the radicalization researcher Prof. Dr. Hanna Pfeifer (ConTrust), the sociologist Dr. Greta Wagner (ConTrust), the film scholar and co-spokesperson of the “ConTrust” research initiative Prof. Dr. Vinzenz Hediger and the political scientist Dr. Cord Schmelzle (Research Institute for Social Cohesion). The event will be moderated by film expert Urs Spörri.
