Vera King talks about the rise of and defense against authoritarianism

In the fourth event in the “Frankfurter Schule” series, social psychologist Prof. Dr. Vera King will talk about the challenges posed by authoritarian attitudes and ideologies. The lecture entitled “Who is authoritarian?” will take place on February 5 from 7 p.m. at the Museum for Communication in Frankfurt.

The task of critical theories is to uncover and understand socially discriminatory and anti-democratic views. Since its foundation, the Frankfurt School has combined socio-critical with psychoanalytical approaches and thus focused on the socio-psychological dynamics behind authoritarian thought patterns. The renowned social psychologist Vera King will build on this in her lecture and shed light on the conditions and dangers of authoritarian attitudes and ideologies.

Vera King is Professor of Sociology and Psychoanalytical Social Psychology at Goethe University, Director of the Sigmund Freud Institute and a member of the “ConTrust” research initiative at the “Normative Orders” research center. The “Frankfurter Schule” event series is organized by the Frankfurt Department of Culture and Science and the “Normative Orders” research center. Cooperation partners are the Institute for Social Research and hr2 Kultur.
