Pandemic Media. Preliminary Notes Toward an Inventory

Booklaunch on January 28, 2021 at the Research Centre Normative Orders of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with Laliv Melamed, PhD (Post-Doc, “Konfigurationen des Films”), Philipp Dominik Keidl, PhD (Post-Doc, “Konfigurationen des Films”), Prof. Antonio Somaini (Professor of Cinema and Media Studies, Université Paris-3 Sorbonne Nouvelle) and Prof. Vinzenz Hediger (Professor of Cinema Studies, Goethe University, Member of “Normative Orders”, Program Director “Konfigurationen des Films”). Welcome Address by Prof. Rainer Forst (Co-Director of the Research Centre “Normative Orders” of Goethe University and Professor of Political Theory and Philosophy, Goethe University).

With its unprecedented scale and consequences, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged norms and put systems of governance to the test, but also generated a variety of new configurations of media. Responding to demands for information, synchronization, regulation, and containment, these “pandemic media” reshape social interactions, spaces, and temporalities.
„Pandemic Media. Preliminary Notes Toward an Inventory” is a collection of 37 essays studying how media emerge, operate, and change in response to the global crisis. Edited by an international group of researchers working with the Research Centre Normative Orders and the Gradudate Research Training Program “Konfigurationen des Films” at Goethe Universität, “Pandemic Media” proposes to provide elements towards an understanding of the post-pandemic world to come.

“Pandemic Media” is published in an open access format in the “Configurations of film” book series with meson press. For more information click here.

Presented by:

Das Prinzip Donald Trump und die Verrohung der Welt

Panel Discussion, Lecture
