Beyond anarchy
About the book
The traumatic experience of the First World War triggered a veritable boom in proposals for world order. Europe’s academics, diplomats and publicists discussed ways of overcoming international “anarchy”. They drew their ideas from liberal, socialist and Christian traditions of political thought. International organizations, international law and economic reforms were supposed to help eliminate war from the world. This volume offers the first German-language overview of the – equally diverse and original – beginnings of a debate on opportunities for international cooperation and peacekeeping that continues to this day.
