Continuation of the “Frankfurt School” series with Prof. Rainer Forst on July 18

What does critical theory have to say about the current state of society? Based on this question, the “Normative Orders” research center at Goethe University and the Department of Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt am Main are offering a podium to current representatives of the famous school of thought. At the second event in the “Frankfurt School” series, political philosopher Rainer Forst and Kia Vahland, opinion editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, will talk about Forst’s thoughts on the question “Crisis of democracy?”.

The crisis of democracy begins where our concepts of justice, democracy, freedom and tolerance are reduced or even twisted into their opposite. According to Rainer Forst, this is only possible in a society that represses the question of justification. This thesis, which will be discussed on the evening, is based on Forst’s theory of reason as a faculty of justification, which allows a conceptual development of these central terms and establishes a comprehensive ideological critique of prevailing justifications for social conditions.

The event will take place on July 18 at 7:30 pm at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt.
