“Trusting the Blockchain, Trusting the Novel” – Adam Kelly speaks in the ConTrust Speaker Series

The inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, justified the new currency with the need for internet commerce to eliminate the problem of trust. Since its introduction, the impact of blockchain technology on the problem of trust – online and offline – has been the subject of intense debate. In his lecture “Trusting the Blockchain, Trusting the Novel”, Adam Kelly (Associate Professor at University College Dublin) will look at the impact of blockchain from a literary studies perspective. Using Jennifer Egan’s novel “The Candy House” (2022) as an example, Adam Kelly will explain how the blockchain could affect human life and how the novel’s trust architectures could respond to these effects.

The public lecture will take place as part of the “ConTrust Speaker Series” on May 13, 2024 at 6 p.m. c.t. in the “Normative Orders” building on the Westend campus of Goethe University. Participation via Zoom is also possible.
