Panel Discussion

Criticism of ideology. Today!

Panel discussion

With: Alenka Zupančič, Mladen Dolar, Slavoj Žižek,Rainer Forst, Regina Kreide and Martin Saar

Moderation: Frank Ruda

The contemporary world seems to be in disarray: an impending (or rather, already occurred) ecological crisis of unprecedented magnitude is juxtaposed with unprecedented forms of socio-economic and political inequality; new forms of technological domination and control coincide with a resurgence of populisms and authoritarianisms; signifiers once associated with emancipatory social movements and theories (e.g. freedom! or self-determination!) are now often used for a non-emancipatory and reactionary use.(e.g. freedom! or self-determination!) are now often used in a non-emancipatory and reactionary way. What is to be done in the current situation? Can “theory” provide orientation? And if so, how?
The panel “Ideology Critique. Today!” will bring together key theorists from the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory and the Ljubljana School of Psychoanalysis – each of them presenting and speaking on their own behalf and not as representatives of a school – to critically discuss and review the possibilities, limits and insights of the different approaches to ideology critique today, in the face of a world in disarray. After a series of opening statements, the panel will address, among other things, the current crisis and the contemporary paradoxes of authority and sovereignty. The panel “Ideology Critique. Today!” is part of the program of the Guest of Honour Slovenia at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2023.

The event will be held in English, is open to the public and can be followed via livestream: Here…. Admission is free.
