Research project: Moral grounds of Global South negotiating positions at climate COPs

Most Global South countries demand that Global North countries should bear a larger climate action burden than Global South countries. Yet there are striking divergences in what Global South countries demand and how they ground their demands. This project leverages the mutual benefit theory in moral psychology, particularly in its contractualist variety, in order to improve our understanding of those diverse negotiating positions. The ultimate goal is to explain why different countries adopt different moral groundings for positions that demand different kinds of actions from the Global North.
