The Covid pandemic has raised awareness of the fact that the best medical care capacities are worthless without qualified and motivated medical and nursing staff. Securing the skilled workforce in the healthcare sector is a task of public service provision. It makes sense to address this by meeting demand through migration; at the same time, the German healthcare system itself is affected by competition for specialist staff.
