About the article:
According to the Lisbon Treaty, European integration has created a European society. This collective singular addresses the uncertainty about the European situation and opens up new understandings of Union law. It expresses the idea that geopolitical conflicts affect Europeans as a collective and that they must resolve their internal conflicts within a society rather than between states. The term also articulates a social reference for the principled constitutionalism that the EU institutions develop in dealing with these conflicts.
