Das Recht im Kontext normativer Ordnungen der Welt des Alten Orients
Law in the Context of Normative Orders of the World of the Ancient Near East.
The article
questions the comprehensive benefit of a strict categorization which distinguishes legal rules,
legal practice and legal science as perspectives of legal history with respect to the Ancient Near
East. Instead, the importance of a contextualization of the sources is stressed. Being closely
connected to religious and political concepts law proves in the context of written knowledge to
be a main factor of the intellectual infrastructure of the Ancient Near East.
