What powers and objectives do independent police complaints bodies have – also in comparison to other police control bodies? How well are the complaints offices known to the public? And how do they actually function in an international comparison? The international conference “Police Accountability – Practices and Dilemmas of Independent Police Complaints Bodies and Police Control” will explore these questions. It will take place from 19 June – 20 June 2024 as the fourth ConTrust Praxisforum in the “Normative Orders” building on the Westend campus.
Speakers at the conference include Prof. Dr. Tobias Singelnstein, criminologist and criminal law expert at Goethe University, Prof. Dr. Hartmut Aden, legal and political scientist at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, criminologist Prof. Dr. Marc Alain from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Dr. Genevieve Lennon, lawyer at the University of Strathclyde and Dr. Anja Johansen, historian at the University of Dundee, as well as the Federal Police Commissioner Uli Grötsch and Marie Anderson, Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.
