Anthology “Non-violent resistance and democratic consolidation” published

At the end of March, the book “Gewaltfreier Widerstand und demokratische Konsolidierung” was published by Springer VS. One of the authors is PD. Dr. Daniel Lambach, Heisenberg Fellow at the Normative Orders Research Network.
The study is based on the question of what role peaceful resistance has on democracies. Although the long-term effects on democracies and democratic consolidation are occasionally claimed, they are not systematically examined, according to the editors in the foreword. By comparing various political transformations that were achieved through non-violent or violent resistance as well as through top-down liberalization, the researchers make significant progress in this systematic examination of the effects of various transitions on democracy. It is shown that non-violent resistance during a democratic transition has a long-term positive influence on the chances of survival and the quality of a democracy.

“Nonviolent Resistance and Democratic Consolidation” was written by PD. Dr. Daniel Lambach, Dr. Markus Bayer, Dr. Felix S. Bethke, Matteo Dressler and Véronique Dudouet. The publication by Springer VS is a translation of the English original “Nonviolent Resistance and Democratic Consolidation”, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2020.
