Nationalism is on the rise again worldwide. Based on this observation, Prof. Dr. Jonathan (Alfred Landecker Professor of Values and Public Policy and Governing Body Fellow at Wolfson College, University of Oxford) will address alternative forms of belonging in his lecture “Group Identity beyond Nationalism. Lessons from National Socialism”, he will examine alternative forms of belonging. In his search for other sources of identity that could replace or at least complement nationalism, he will also draw on his personal family history and his father’s life in Frankfurt during the Nazi era.
Prof. Dr. Jonathan Wolff, Fellow of the British Academy, is Alfred Landecker Professor of Values and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, and President of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, London. His most recent book, co-authored with Avner de-Shalit, is City of Equals, Oxford University Press 2024.
The public lecture will take place on May 2, 2024 at 6:15 pm in room 1.801 of the Casino building on the Westend campus of Goethe University. It is organized by the Fritz Bauer Institute in cooperation with the research center “Normative Orders”. Admission is free.
