The General Meeting of the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) has appointed Prof. Dr. Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln as the institute’s future president. She will succeed Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger, who has headed the institute since 2007, on September 1, 2024.
Prof. Dr. Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln is a nationally and internationally renowned academic and has been Professor of Macroeconomics and Development at Goethe University Frankfurt and a member of the “Normative Orders” research center since 2009. She has been awarded the Hermann Heinrich Gossen Prize of the Verein für Socialpolitik (2016), the prestigious Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (2018) and prizes from the European Research Council, among others. Her research focuses on inequality, social mobility and growth.
The Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) has been investigating fundamental questions of modern societies since 1969, focusing primarily on the problem-solving capacities of social and state institutions, from the local to the global level. As the future President of the WZB, Prof. Dr. Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln wants to continue and expand basic research on topics of great social relevance.
