Panel Discussion

How to speak anyway?

Panel discussion on the publication of “Talk anyway”

With: Julia Yael Alfandari, Christoph Menke, Hanna Pfeifer and Nahed Samour
Moderation: Miryam Schellbach

In the wake of the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023 and the subsequent Gaza war and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe, insinuations, violations and (demands for) one-sided positioning in German politics and society are coming to a head. The unproductive polarization of the discussion about Israel and Palestine in Germany is countered by the volume Trotzdem sprechen (ullstein 2024). The authors gathered here are committed to exchange, as difficult as it may be. On the occasion of the publication of the volume, the panel discussion would like to contribute to such an exchange and raise the question of what role the university space and in particular the humanities and social sciences (can/should/must) play in this.
