Note on the issue of external links
Cross-references (“links”) to content provided by other university institutions and other providers must be distinguished from this own content. Links” are always “living” (dynamic) references. The web editors of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University have checked the external content for possible civil or criminal liability when the link was first created. However, it does not constantly check the content to which reference is made in the central information services of the Central Administration of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University on the WWW for changes that could give rise to new liability. If it determines or is informed by others that a specific offer to which it has provided a link triggers civil or criminal liability, it will remove the reference to this offer.
Despite careful control of the content, no liability is assumed for the content of external links. The operators of linked pages are solely responsible for their content. In its judgment of 12.05.1998 “Liability for links” (312 O 85/98), the Hamburg Regional Court ruled that the inclusion of a link may entail co-responsibility for the content of the “linked” page and may therefore result in liability. This can be prevented by emphatically distancing oneself from these contents. Against this background, the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University hereby expressly distances itself as a precautionary measure from all content of all linked pages on its website. It has no influence on the design and content of the linked pages, nor has it adopted these contents as its own. Storage of access data
Access data is generally stored each time a file is requested from the central information services of the Central Administration of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University on the WWW. Each data record consists of at most:
The computer address (IP number) of the requesting party
The page from which the file was requested
The name of the file
The date and time of the request
The amount of data transferred
The access status (file transferred, file not found, etc.)
A description of the type of web browser used.
User profiles are not created. The stored access data can be processed in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 (7) of the General Terms of Use for the Information Processing and Communication Infrastructure of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University (General ICT Terms of Use) dated June 5, 2001, as amended on February 17, 2004. Access data, including excerpts, will not be passed on to third parties.
