Antonia Witt (PRIF)

Moderation: Jonas Wolff (Goethe University/PRIF)

Lecture Series “Peace and Security in Post-Liberal Times”

The field of peace and security is in crisis. Conflicts, even wars, have become more numerous, more violent, and more complex. The international norms and institutions created to prevent, mediate, and end conflicts have been heavily criticized, ignored, or even actively undermined. At the same time, potentially post-liberal forms of governance are evolving and gaining strength both domestically and internationally.

The lecture series aims to shed light on those transformations: What new kinds of perspectives do we need to understand Peace and Security in post-liberal times, including current challenges such as new technologies and the hybridization of national and international security? What do post-liberal and illiberal visions of Peace and Security entail, and what kind of effects do they have on international governance structures and on the ground? Are we observing new practices emerging, and how are they transforming the international Peace and Security architecture?

The Lecture Series is part of the research program “Turning Points. Normative Orders in Transition?”, funded by the Stiftungsfonds Commerzbank im Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and is organized by Prof. Dr. Lisbeth Zimmermann.
