Tobias Singelnstein

  • Biografische Angaben

    Tobias Singelnstein has been Professor of Criminology and Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law at Goethe University since the summer semester of 2022. Previously, he held the Chair of Criminology at Ruhr University Bochum and was Junior Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law at Freie Universität Berlin, where he also completed his habilitation. Tobias Singelnstein's work focuses on the one hand on criminology. His research interests include social control and society, police and justice as well as security research. He is also active in criminal law and criminal procedural law, where he focuses on investigative measures and evidence law, data processing in criminal proceedings and criminal law and digitalization. He is co-editor of the journals "Neue Kriminalpolitik" and "Kriminologisches Journal". In 2020, he was elected to the DFG Review Board 113 (Law).

On the topicality of the concept of violence based on Camus and Derrida

Prof. Dr. Christine Abbt from the University of St. Gallen gave a lecture on democracies and the concept of violence as part of the lecture series "At the crossroads? On the crisis of democracy", she gave a lecture on democracies and the concept of violence. Under the title "Defending democracies. On the topicality of the concept of violence in Camus and Derrida", the philosopher discussed forms of violence and revolt and categorized them with regard to a democratic setting.

Christine Hentschel on reorientation in catastrophic times

Against the backdrop of the destruction of living conditions, wars, permanent crises and threats to democracy, Hentschel addressed the infiltration of the catastrophic into everyday social life and a changing activist and literary approach to the future.
